Welcome, to the inaugural post of Sparky Chic! I’m Jacqui, and I hope to share with y’all our journey in our new home.
Halloween is always a big deal for us, but this year: I’m HOSTING. For many years a group of my friends rented a giant colonial house in Geneva-on-the-Lake, Ohio and threw a bash for an entire weekend! It’s century home charm was basically automatic decoration! But friends started families, schedules got crazier, and a weekend Halloween getaway is no longer feasible. So this year, to try to bring back some of that spirit of the season, we decided to throw a combined Halloween and housewarming (dubbed: Haunted Housewarming) party! I am thrilled, but nervous to be hosting such a huge group, because our old house was so tiny I rarely entertained more than a handful of friends or family at a time. It will certainly be an experience!
With this event coming up, I’ve been excited to get our house spooky-fied (a word I just made up) in preparation. Please join me for a walk around our home to see my Sparky Chic version of All Hallows Eve!
At our entryway, you’ll find our console table decked out with all manner of spookiness! I love this little haunted mansion that I found at Home Goods. It looks even cooler in the dark!
As you enter on the left, you’ll see our formal-dining-room-turned-my-home office. As you’ll see in a bit, we have a “morning room” off of the kitchen, which gives us more than enough space for seated dining (to be honest, most of my meals are scarfed at our kitchen island). Using this space for a home office has been great, because it has tons of natural light, and a nice view of our neighborhood out the front windows!
I am admittedly not an expert shelfie stylist – I’m working on it. But the combination of pumpkins, prints of past Halloween parties, old books, skulls, and crows makes me smile every time I pass by!
As you move past the office and the staircase, you’ll enter the main living area, with our living room, kitchen, and morning room-turned-dining area. I added some orange lights, and if you look closely, some hairy spiders to our majesty palm that we moved inside from our deck for the season. In our art niche, which I can never figure out how to decorate, I added a faux black bouquet, some spooky fabric, and lots and lots of bats! Spanning our columns is more shroudy fabric. On our sectional, I found these fun vintage looking pillow covers on Amazon, to continue my neutral vibe! Note: this couch will be headed to our rec room in the basement when that is completed – look for lots of changes in this room in the upcoming months!
Finishing off the tour are a few touches that I added to our dining area and kitchen. I love wax warmers, so I was so excited to find this creepy, green-eyed skull warmer at Walmart! I decked out the bar cart with a fun letter board and more of the skeleton and pumpkin motif.
Well, I hope you enjoyed my Halloween tour, and my first post on Sparky Chic! Please visit again soon for more of my decor ideas, DIYs, favorite finds, gift ideas, and entertaining tips as I add them in the near future!
